This is the Canada I used to love and got to immigrate to, I could not be happier….. then! It changed and people got greedy and "imported" problems one after the other, humor is white washed and the music died. I left, live in the north of Sweden again and wished to return one day once I can retire. Well, what was to me Canada is no laughing matter today so I'll stay put and observe. Like in South Park, BUILD THAT WALL! – Preserve Canadas true identity and throw out the "progressors" and let the baby go with the water.
…”one of the cheapest Bogie’s this reporter has ever seen”…
But hey….Bob Hope should have done this routine on one of his shows.
Thomas' Hope is astonishing, but Flaherty gave one of THE best Nixons I've ever seen. It left me wanting more Nixon-Hope interaction…perhaps on Merv.
Thomas' impressions of Hope, Cronkite, etc., are uncanny.
Bob Hoop
So politically incorrect! They could never do this today….
he doesn't look at all like hope, but if you only listen he's indistinguishable from hope.
The laugh track spoils this irreverent and brilliant piece of carefully crafted satire and the cheapest "Bogey" I've ever seen.
The writing and performing on this show was the apex of comedy.
This stuff was classic!
This entire bit is SO good. And it has aged well.
This was the best skit comedy cast in history including the original lineup in SNL (IMHO). It’s a shame that Dave Thomas didn’t make it as big in the US.
Thomas as Hope and Rick Moranis as Woody Allen is classic. Easily found
The pipeline bit had me laughing for 10 minutes.
All sand golf coarse thats perfect !
Hahahahaha this one never gets old
SCTV was so well packaged it was "real life" believable.
Let’s face it, his Hope is Hopeless. Really guys, why this crazy worship of SCTV? They can be funny, but rarely do they bring a sketch home.
Kind of happening now in 2023! I bet Bob would be involved in the new golf league!
That was a lot of fun.
The only thing I've learned in my time on this planet and in this existence is that humanity is insane.
I remember when Hope did a special announcing the college football all American team. It was fucking terrible!
And, ladies, and gentlemen, Syria has dropped out of the contest whilte Palestine continues to lose ground. Pls. tune in next year for the Kanye (YE) open . . .
Omg they were brilliant!
This show….SCTV…was broadcast to CA. and OR., at one in the morning, Mondays, for a few years.
I knew about the comedy club/studio, in Canada, from friends. The connection of the actors was
not common info until decades later. I note most of the cast of the TV show survived/inspired a
lot of reality, without the drugs and jail and death, like so many other people from comedy events.
Dave Thomas was the only person who could actually do an excellent Bob Hope. Even Rich Little and Johnny Carson have said that Hope is very difficult to do.
Hilarious! Leave it to the Canadians to make fun of the ridiculousness of Middle Eastern politics, I never saw anyone in America ridicule these characters like they need to be.
Hilarious! Hilarious
His joke about Saudi women was true then and it's true now 40 years later. That's progress for ya, we're supposed to live side by side with these people and yet their culture is 200 years behind ours.
