Underrated movie
If I remember right this is from the Cinemax year. I remember begging my mom to subscribe.
That look Levy gets on his face after he says "I hope we don't run into any force field!" is the funniest part of this whole clip. I've laughed at that for decades.
I have been looking for this for years
Mennonite clothes. LOL
This wasn't so much a parody of 2001 as it was of 2010: The Year We Make Contact which was out in theatres at the time so of course it was ripe for parody in classic SCTV form.
I think Eugene Levy does a better Ernest Borgnine than Ernest Borgnine did.
…brilliant stuff!
Let’s go small change
Disturbing actually
Space travel looks comfy…. Eh? Those blue Recliners tho!
So brilliant! A million takes and references, but just comic genius from all involved.
15:11 – Monty Python "This is Mr. F.G. Superman …."
Monolith. Da Mon O Lith!
SCTV really slammed 2001. I actually enjoy this parody more than the actual film. I get a kick out of how the Monolith has legs & walks. It acts like a monster from one of the Haunted Houses episodes of The 3 Stooges – scaring & chasing everyone 20:11
Off the script
Woody Tobias Jr best director ever. Just Five seconds after launch. " I hope we don't run into any force field..Force field ?? In this galaxy ??……Force Field !!!'. Lol. Why did he call him Small Change ? Is that like Cheap Laffs ?
Old timer's will get the "bacciagalupe" allusion.
When ya realize this is the single most inspirational influence for Rick and Morty

Brilliant work Woody Tobias Jr.
Omg Eugenes face close ups legit has me laughing so hard. My teenage daughter and I will mimic it and die laughing every time.
This needs more likes!
My father has a replica monolith from 2001 A Space Odyssey in his yard. That scene with Martin Short reaching for the monolith had me DYING!!!
Even the 1980s women. The lens of history has been very kind.
Not only a spoof of 2001 and QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE, but someone who worked on this must have also seen WOMEN OF THE PREHISTORIC PLANET: The crash is a pretty close "reenactment" of the miniature ship crash in that film (it's on YT/worth a laugh, especially that crash scene).
Eugene Levy as Ernest Borgnine. The funniest thing in the world.
Candy, Thomas, OHara, Moranis?
Dressed to the nines, gallavantin' and carousin' and doing all kinds of whatnot.
