In the video SCTV Channel – Just For Fun, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a group of fictional Canadian brothers who starred in “Great White North”, a improv which was streamed on second city television for the show’s most liked season when it moved to CBC Television in the year 1980. The character Bob McKenzie is played by actor Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is performed by Dave Thomas. Despite born originally as a joke to both please and laugh about stupid Canadian content legislation, the pair turned into a pop culture hit in both Canada and the USA. The two enetually would become the focus of a an amazing comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
The topic is nuclear proliferation, but host Stan Kanter keeps going off on juvenile tangents. Guests include Indira Gandhi, Pierre Trudeau, and William F. Buckley. Starring Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Joe Flaherty, Martin Short, Nancy Dolman, and George Buza.

“Last call for lunatic liberals and their girlfriends”. SCTV baby! Unstoppable in their prime. Levy is gold. More Levy gold in this 10 min sketch than the entire Schitts Creek series, yet that is what he won the acclaim for.

Its amazing the crazy range all the SCTV actors had. Levy alone plays everything from the wormy Earl Canenbar to this guy. Same with Andrea Martin. Gandhi to "Edith Prickley". They were the best!
SCTV has always been light years ahead of SNL and this skit shows why. The sets were a lot cheaper, but that was part of its (very Canadian) charm.
And for those of us old enough, those were just outstanding impressions.
"Danny, cancel that roast beef buffet. No, seriously she'd love that joke".
"Danny, find out if the have their own fire department".
And on and on.

That William Buckley impression is spot-on.

SCTV was bursting at the seams with sheer brilliance on both sides of the camera, and could skewer tripe like damned few people before or since. If they had you in their crosshairs it was usually because you deserved it, and you should’ve been glad it was them rather than 60 Minutes. Sometimes, yes, it was because they loved you. Sometimes it happened because a cast member impersonated you well, but 90% of SCTV zeroes in on mindless garbage with uncanny accuracy, as in this testifies.
By the way, the scary husband in the audience is played by George Buza, later a regular cast member of Joe Flaherty’s series Maniac Mansion.

This could be 2020, only funny for all the right reasons.
one of my favorite skits ever…..a completely old school and extremely shallow host making a mockery out of interviewing people of historic significance.
