In the video SCTV – Coming Soon: MEL’S ROCK PILE! (w/ Richard Harris), Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of strange Canadian comedians who are responsible for “Great White North”, a ad lib skit which was broadcast on SCTV for the show’s most popular season when it braodcast by CBC Television in the year 1980. Bob is created by Rick Moranis and Doug is brought to life by actor Dave Thomas. Despite developed originally as a skit to both fulfill and laugh about legal Canadian content legislation, the two morphed into a pop culture sensation in both Canada and the USA. The McKenzie siblings became the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
