In the video SCTV – coming soon – NIGHT SCHOOL HI-Q (Central Vs. Saint Michael’s), Bob and Doug McKenzie are two of made up Canadian siblings who were featured in “Great White North”, a improv which was aired on second city television for the show’s third season when it moved to CBC Television in 1980. The character Bob McKenzie is brought to life by comedian Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is played by comic Dave Thomas. The bit was developed originally as filler to both fulfill and laugh about network Canadian content guidelines, the duo grew up to be a pop culture hit in both Canada and America. The McKenzie siblings went on to become the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
Also known as Second City TV (1976–1981) – SCTV Network 90 (1981–1983) – SCTV Channel (1983–1984). This classic Canadian sketch comedy launched many careers and went mostly un-noticed by US audiences save for a brief stint on NBC.
