Bob and Doug McKenzie in SCTV Comment with David Brinkley Viletones at CBGBs
In the video SCTV Comment with David Brinkley Viletones at CBGBs, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of hysterical Canadian family members who were featured in “Great White North”, a program which was broadcast on SCTV – second city television for the show’s 3rd season when it got sold to the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the 80’s. Bob McKenzie is created by actor Rick Moranis and Doug’s character is acted by actor Dave Thomas. The bit was created originally as an idea to both satisfy and makes jokes about silly Canadian content guidelines, the two transformed into a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and across the border. The characters became the focus of a famous comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

SB TVs coming with a blueprint last
night’s violence concert at CBGB’s was
an uninspired array of the same trashy
non-performance too many of our decent
New Wave clubs are experiencing on to
regular a basis if those of us who
choose to support the only decent
current force and popular music today go
to the inconvenience and
uncomfortability of tolerating these
establishments the least we can expect
is a decent performance and the right to
indulge without the ever-present fear of
having a beer bottle take out one of our
eyes for some violence can be expected
the music is so powerfully laced with
cultural relevance that catharsis is a
necessity I don’t mind getting wet or
for that matter bleeding but I’ll stick
my own pen in my own face
