Bob’s part is performed by hilarious comedian Rick Moranis and Doug’s character is created by the comedian Dave Thomas. The bit was made originally as filler to both follow guidelines and make fun of dumb Canadian content laws, the siblings turned into a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and the US. The McKenzie brothers became the focus of a hit comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
