In the video SCTV – FIRESIDE with Mayor Tommy Shanks – The Economy, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of hysterical Canadian siblings who starred in “Great White North”, a sketch which was broadcast on second city television for the show’s most liked season when it got sold to the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the year 1980. Bob’s character is played by Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is acted by actor Dave Thomas. The sketch was created originally as filler to both satisfy and mock network Canadian content statutes, the duo transformed into a pop culture success in both Canada and America. The McKenzie siblings soon became the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
