Bob and Doug McKenzie in SCTV – GRAFT CHEESES!
In the video SCTV – GRAFT CHEESES!, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of made up Canadian actors who were featured in “Great White North”, a program which was aired on SCTV for the show’s most liked season when it moved to CBC Television in the 1980s. Bob’s part is brought to life by the funny Rick Moranis and Doug’s character is brought to life by comic Dave Thomas. The bit was brought to life originally as a joke to both follow guidelines and laugh about legal Canadian content laws, the two morphed into a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and the States. The two soon became the focus of a hit comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
GRAFT CHEESES: This is one of my favourite SCTV bits. Who knew that Eugene Levy had the funniest hands in comedy. Just a brilliant sketch!
Also known as Second City TV (1976–1981) – SCTV Network 90 (1981–1983) – SCTV Channel (1983–1984). This classic Canadian sketch comedy launched many careers and went mostly un-noticed by US audiences save for a brief stint on NBC.
