"Once again, several promising university students have missed out on $250 scholarships. I'm Alex Trebebebulal, and you should all be ashamed of yourselves."
Eugene Levy is my fave of the SCTV comedians (though Andrea Martin is next).
I think Trebek actually saw half wits thought it was hilarious. Perry Como saw Levy doing a skit laying on the couch singing, the guy was so relaxed. Perry laughed his head off too. People who saw schitz creek have to watch him on SCTV. They did a take off on Original Ocean s Eleven, so funny, and Bobby Bittman , worlds worst comedian, and parodying Hollywood phonies. Classic!!
This is very similar to Half Wits. Even some of the same actors.
Levy was always my favorite SCTVer. He’s one of the funniest people alive.
I didn’t like that Alex made Margaret Meehan cry. She was just seventeen, you know what I mean?
Alex, who is Boris Badenov?
Hilarious. One of their best. SCTV was great
WELL YOU DIDN'T SAY IT!
Who is on the bottom right? Don’t remember him.
I’m almost 65 yo and I’ve been a fan of all sorts of comedy my entire life – SCTV is my all time favorite, even over Monty Python, SNL, Key and Peele, etc. The ultimate was when they switched to a 90 minute format. The intelligence, quality and craftsmanship were off the charts.
Peter Townsend ! Who ?
WTG TOWNSEND!!!
You can see a lot of this in Sam Richardson on "I Think You Should Leave"'s "Baby of the Year" skit.
You can tell celebrity jeopardy on snl was a crib of this.
Its hilarious when he finally loses it.
I like how you're equally annoyed with Margaret and feel sympathy for how upset she it.
Alex Trebek was on a local afternoon TV show in Toronto in 1971 and he looked just like Eugene Levy’s character here.
Sctv and kids in the hall are my favs
The best I like the Beatles Too
they all so young
When it first began SCTV was funny. What I’ve seen of it’s later days isn’t funny. John Candy they say, left because he felt the show was going in the wrong direction. It was canceled.
"Love to love you, baby" is a line I still use to this day! Hilarious stuff!
I've seen this at least 5 times and it's still funny.
These Skits are classics
Eugene's intensity has made me so anxious my stomach is all knotted up.
Dang, SCTV was great.
Truman Capote!!
Funniest shoestring shit.sctv had famous people. Sctv . Second city is Chicago and was actually funnier than snl.
SCTV is STILL ahead of it's time. Achingly smart and funny.
"That's what I meant" – echoed in the Lizzo game show sketch on SNL a year ago
00:20 a Frantics AND SCTV crossover XD
I want to go back to there.
Damn this reminds me of It's Academic only better.
Yes, on "Reach For The Top" Alex Trebek was often testy with those dorky high school kids. You could atell. He was always professional, but it must've been frustrating.
I always go back to this episode to cram for my test in life.
It’s great that Eugene and Catherine are still doing great work together in Schitt’s Creek almost 100 years later.
