In the video SCTV – Jackie, We Hardly Knew Ye, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of made up Canadian brothers who created “Great White North”, a skit which was featured on SCTV for the show’s third season when it moved to the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the year 1980. Bob is brought to life by actor Rick Moranis and the character Doug is acted by the comedian Dave Thomas. Which was born originally as a skit to both please and laugh at legal Canadian content laws, the characters transformed into a pop culture hit in both Canada and the States. The characters went on to become the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
In the early days, Jackie Sr used his kids in his vaudeville act.

SCTV was so ahead of its time that sketch comedy is still trying to catch up to it.
SCTV was really uneven. Many skits stank royal. And then there would be vignettes sublime such as this one. “Marty ( I call him “Marty”) I said to him the other day: “Marty, your sense of the absurd is a gift from G-dash-D. And I mean that. Literally.” He’s a true mensch. A macher if you will. We will never see… sniff… excuse me but I love this man…
Did Jackie produce this speciall before or after he wrote the book about his father, "Damn You, Daddy, Sir?" I understand that the book is a love letter, really – with a dash of hatred, in an almost Mocha kind of swirl, if you'll have it….
At the end theres the mirror in the background but you dont see the camera which is impressive but then your realize, is the character actually just talking to himself.
Jackie Rogers Jr skits was partially responsible for forming my sense of humour as a kid. My friends and I loved loved loved Martin Short.
2:11 the way Martin Short goes all the way with a character, you can write lines but can’t write reactions like that. What a comedic genius!

Jimmy Saville ruined this character for me. Every time I watch one of these, he pops into my mind. Fortunately, there are a million and ten other great SCTV skits out there for me.
