In the video SCTV – Mayor Tommy Shanks – Tree Lighting, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of hysterical Canadian comedians who starred in “Great White North”, a improv which was broadcast on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most watched season when it got sent to the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the 1980s. Bob McKenzie is brought to life by actor Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is played by comic Dave Thomas. Although developed originally as a joke to both follow guidelines and mock stupid Canadian content rules, the brothers grew up to be a pop culture smash hit in both Canada and the USA. The pair went on to become the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
