Bob and Doug McKenzie in SCTV – Mel’s Rockpile – MacArthur Park (vocal stylings by Richard Harris)
In the video SCTV – Mel’s Rockpile – MacArthur Park (vocal stylings by Richard Harris), Bob and Doug McKenzie are two of imaginaryfunny Canadian brothers who were featured in “Great White North”, a show which was broadcast on SCTV for the show’s most liked season when it was featured on the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the year 1980. Bob McKenzie is acted by hilarious comedian Rick Moranis and Doug’s character is created by comic Dave Thomas. Regardless the fact it was made originally as an idea to both please and makes jokes about stupid Canadian content guidelines, the characters grew up to be a pop culture hit in both Canada and the States. The McKenzie siblings enetually would become the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

My favourite Mel's Rock Pile.
Who threw that brick? LOL!
A brick!!! Hahahaha
Many are unaware that we had a Canadian Bandstand and this is very much like Canadian Bandstand
SCTV is arguably the greatest skit comedy show ever created, and that includes Monty Python and early SNL. For my money it's easily the greatest, hands down.
SCTV> SNL
What the hell was McArthur Park. Huge hit basically driven by radio DJs having to take a dump.
man as a kid I remember staying up all night waiting to watch SCTV
Dave Thomas was spot-on as Richard Harris!
I was listening to MacArthur Park the other day. Then this came up in my feed. Hmm…. And I see Sir Richard doing The Swim. And The Hitchhiker. And, what else? The Frug perhaps? And lest we forget, the girl doing the high vocal parts at the end. OH NO! She had to wait such a long, long time. Nice that she brought a book.
"Keep the baby, Faith!"
The hitchhike!
I’ll bet Joe Blough threw that brick!

Is that the chick from ABBA?
Dave Thomas' equivalent of Belushi's Joe Cocker.
" who threw that brick?!" A perfect end to one of my all time fave SCTV skits. I laugh so hard through the entire thing.
joeytwiddle: thanks for posting. Richard's just boogeying away while Mel gabs to the audience. LOL! Cheers!
OMG I can’t hear the “real” song without thinking of Dave Thomas and this skit!!!
Happy birthday to Dave Thomas. AYYY!!
At least it wasn't Rolf Harris. Although that would have made for an excuse to bust out with a stylophone.
Im just trying to meet some girls…lol
We truly will not have this recipe again
This is my favorite comedy sketch of all time. The slow pullback to the chick reading a book has always been a gut buster.
I met sir richard harris son Jamie at a film festival. He asked every fetching woman to marry him and spilled wine on my silk blouse. Legendary.
Do you think the mic is picking up his dancing?
Don’t look for this version of MacArthur Park on Spotify. The original one isn’t even there.
Was Moe Greene ever rescued from the Litonian Liberation Front?
I am flummoxed by the cake being left out in the rain. How could that happen?
Greatest live performance of all time.
Catchy musical rendition.
