Sctv was famous. Almost all snl were first on sctv.
This is just a classic…it should be in the comedy hall of fame. And Rick Moranis looks like Chick Corea…
Tony was underrated.
moranis coming in blowing outta his mouthg was brilliant whoowhoo whoo
Wow. Great
Brilliant
Tony Rosato a special comedic gift…that was squandered on snl. Proof bad writing can ruin anyone.
John Denver singing Rocky Mountain High from the hellish depths of a Turkish prison. That's comedy.
What was funny is that the real John Denver didn't play left handed.
Is this a syndicated version? Because I found another version where, after the prison guards smash John Denver's guitar and search his room for drugs, it cuts to the warden's office with Wolfman Jack (played by Rick Moranis, if you can believe it. Between making him look like a werewolf and his spot-on vocal impression of Wolfman Jack, I didn't know who it was at first) warning viewers about going to a country like Turkey where they don't mess around when it comes to drug smugglers before he introduces Anne Murray (Andrea Martin) singing "Snowbird". This version cuts the warning about Turkey.
Istan…bul? I always thought it should be called instant…bul. You don't say istant coffee, you say instant coffee.
People of the 2020's: It used to be acceptable to say that a Turkish prison was one of the worst places in the world to be, and that the guards and warden were corrupt, vicious, and could not be trusted. These things are still mostly true, but we're not allowed to reference or joke about it in any way because someone's feelings might get hurt. This is because people of the 1970's and 1980's were basically gods compared to you. Jesus wept.
Randy Newman sure was a popular target of the SCTV writers…I seem to remember him on Celebrity Blow-Up being feted by Billy Sol Hurok and Big Jim McBob….until he blew up real good, of course!
OMG never seen this. Absolutely Insanely Great.
Tony Rosato was very underrated.
Summary of Comments for SCTV:
– It's better than SNL
– Whatever actor is in the video is a genius
– People profess their attraction to the female cast
– Earl and Floyd are based on actual Canadian news people
This is insane! What a crazy mashup!
Great stuff. Wish Tony had become part of the whole SCTV gang on permanent basis.
Gave me a smile when it was first aired and then just now. I wish they would show the Abbott & Costello show and their movies . Hold that Ghost was great! Well, a lot of them were great. The only problem was that they were released too soon between movies. . Oh well, at least they had their TV show. . .
Another Great One ! And hearing a Wolfman Jack intro for A & C is hilarious by itself !
Better than the real thing
Rick Moranis does a great John Denver with the sunglasses, guitar and outfit.
Total Concept
The Genius of SCTV: Abbott And Costello meets Midnight Express meets The Midnight Special! Only SCTV could have pulled this off!
…who’s the band?
The Who’s on next week!
For the young folks: Midnight Express was a 1970s movie about an American who goes to prison in Turkey for trying to smuggle out hashish.
About and Costello were a much older comedy duo.
Tony Rosato's Lou Costello was amazing. Lou"s daughter met him and told Tony his impression was the best she'd seen!
SCTV Genius mashing up a harrowing prison film with an iconic rock showcase + Abbott & Costello
Fix the cabinet door Fix the shower knob. Forget the skit
Who's playing Wolfman Jack? Is it Rick Moranis?
Loved how SCTV would combine 2 themes or shows into one skit
great lou costello impersonation. RIP tony rosatto.
RIP Tony!
