Bob and Doug McKenzie in SCTV National Anthem
In the video SCTV National Anthem, Bob and Doug McKenzie are two of hilarious Canadian siblings who can been seen in “Great White North”, a program which was broadcast on SCTV for the show’s most watched season when it aired by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the eighties. Bob’s part is played by comedian Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is created by comic Dave Thomas. The bit was made originally as a skit to both fulfill and mock dumb Canadian content legislation, the siblings grew up to be a pop culture success in both Canada and America. The McKenzie siblings went on to become the focus of a hit comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

Take off you hoser!
Dunvegan Bridge in Northern Alberta at the end…
Nobody did it like SCTV!
The scenery in this video is from Canada. As he starts to sing the lake in the background is Two Jack Lake near Banff Alberta.
talent period!
He should be singing O Canada!
LOVE THIS!!!!
I want Rick Moranis to perform this at the next Super Bowl.
:50 to :55 CRACKS ME UP!!!!!!
6 people took a knee.
Always loved Moranis, super-underrated.
I'll use this any time the American national anthem is sung.
Oh say can you sibidibidibidee……!
After seeing this skit on scv i got into Mel Torme
Better than Fergie!
Still better than Fergie.
I remember Moranis once did this bit on Letterman. Still hilarious all these years later…..
I am a huge Torme fan and this is perfect satire.
Happy 4th of July! Ha!
EU ADORO VÊ-LO NA TELA, ELE ME PARECE UMA PESSOA ADORÁVEL, E ACHO QUE TAMBÉM PODERIA ATUAR EM QUALQUER GÊNERO,COMÉDIAS, DRAMAS, TERROR … ELE ME PARECE UM ATOR MUITO VERSÁTIL, ACHO QUE ELE É INJUSTAMENTE SUBESTIMADO.
Thanks for this.
Where's the Canadian Anthem "as selected by Bob & Doug McKenzie" which followed?? That was the equally hilarious! Could you post that one too? (or the full bit of the two signoffs together?)
This was one of my FAVORITE Rick Moranis bits from SCTV. I LOVED the Gerry Todd Show. Thanks Rick for making me Laugh so much over the years in all those great movies and shows. Also, you lucky guy, you got to play on SCTV!
"…gave proof through the night that our flag was still tall and tan and young and lovely, the girl from Ipanema goes walking…"
This is Moranis' Sgt. Pepper, as far as I'm concerned.
XD Good call!
Rick Moranis CAN SING!!!
Who came here from the jay and Dan podcast
that is awesome. @joelbong
@verbusen son, if this weren't a real programme, whats the bachelor??
He was such a pioneer. Everybody sings it like that now.
This is surreal as this show played really late on NBC at a time before the stations started adding infomercials at night and actually did sign off. I wonder how many drunk, drugged out and sleepy people (like I would be watching SCTV in the early 80's), mistook this for a real TV program, lol!
star spangled ba-ba-na-ba-nanner
Rick Moranis was so underrated; this is just a smidge of his genius in the realm of musical satire. Anybody remember Gerry Todd's videos featuring Tom Monroe? PURE GENIUS!!!
