  1. This is how you do a game show parody. Levy goes from calm, to slightly irritated, then losing his patience, to completely blowing up. This shows good character progression and it heightens not only the comedy, but also the situation. Also, the contestants here are not dumb, it's only their certain quirks that get in their way and end up costing them at the end. SNL would fall into a trap of making the contestants dumb and have the host remain the same throughout the show. SCTV knows how to do it right.

  2. And remember, Trebek began his quiz show career hosting a high school trivia show in Canada, which almost all of the cast would have been aware of. Levy’s impression likely based on that, not Jeopardy. He started on Jeopardy in 1984.

  3. Eugene Levy's character as the intolerant and impatient talk show host has some great similarities to Monty Python's Eddie Baby sketch featuring John Cleese and more importantly Graham Chapman who does an excellent job of being intolerant and impatient…as good as anyone anywhere.
