I enjoyed this sketch today as much as when it first aired a lifetime ago. It was one of their most popular recurring bits.
What struck me about this sketch is that the the host is actually named Alex Trebek. In the other sketches that I recall the name was fictionalized as Alex Trebel.
I used to watch this in the seventies very very funny thank you.
This is 7+ minutes of continuous laughter for my husband and me! Love it!
This cast was fantastic! So much talent came out of SCTV
This is how you do a game show parody. Levy goes from calm, to slightly irritated, then losing his patience, to completely blowing up. This shows good character progression and it heightens not only the comedy, but also the situation. Also, the contestants here are not dumb, it's only their certain quirks that get in their way and end up costing them at the end. SNL would fall into a trap of making the contestants dumb and have the host remain the same throughout the show. SCTV knows how to do it right.
What a bunch of great people. Thanks for posting this
The funniest. Unmatched.
"Win some big cash prizes" – like $25.
SCTV was absolutely brilliant. Such talent all across the board. Underrated genius'. The look on Andrea Martin's face is priceless.
From 1981 if I remember correctly, I really like these guys (both men and women) they were quite entertaining.
Not very funny
Funny show
Man, did SNL ever rip this stuff off from SCTV.
Fantastic writing and performances. I can’t believe how blatantly SNL ripped this off particularly Will Ferrell basically impersonating Eugene Levy.
Eugene Levy's Alex Trebek impression is just pitch perfect.
Now that was pure comedy
And remember, Trebek began his quiz show career hosting a high school trivia show in Canada, which almost all of the cast would have been aware of. Levy’s impression likely based on that, not Jeopardy. He started on Jeopardy in 1984.
MAYHEM!!!
It’s always a pleasure to check in with Oogie.
St Micheal’s & Central Tech both are Toronto high schools. 🙂
Awesome! Saturday Night Live ripped off this idea with Jeopardy years later.
Comedy gold.
Possibly my favourite SCTV sketch of all time. Every moment is perfect.
Duke Ellington is correct!!! Lol love it!
That's how all game shows should end.
It just occurred to me. The Central team is all the same actors as the Parkside team from the original with only Catherine O'Hara reprising the same role
Parody based on the CBC Toronto High School quiz show Reach for the Top hosted by Alex Trebek.
I graduated high school in 82’ This show was a must watch every week..so funny then and still is now!
Great upload!
I might be wrong, and if I am I will eat a bug…but these High Q and Half Wit sketches are among the greatest comedy sketches ever…#SmallViceLikeObjectsRule
SCTV was brilliant, this sketch is right up there with Monty Python's Arthur "Two Sheds" Jackson and Eddy Baby.
DUKE ELLINGTON IS CORRECT!
Eugene Levy's character as the intolerant and impatient talk show host has some great similarities to Monty Python's Eddie Baby sketch featuring John Cleese and more importantly Graham Chapman who does an excellent job of being intolerant and impatient…as good as anyone anywhere.
Dumb jhuw humor. Lame
