Bob and Doug McKenzie in SCTV Season 2, ep. 2 – Bob Hope Desert Classic
In the video SCTV Season 2, ep. 2 – Bob Hope Desert Classic, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of strange Canadian actors who can been seen in “Great White North”, a show which was introduced on SCTV – second city television for the show’s third season when it got sent to CBC Television in the 80’s. The character Bob McKenzie is created by hilarious comedian Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is acted by actor Dave Thomas. Regardless the fact it was developed originally as a skit to both satisfy and laugh about stupid Canadian content policies, the characters morphed into a pop culture smash hit in both Canada and the US. The brothers soon became the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
No studio audience. Interesting.
Catherine O'Hara: beautiful and funny.
This episode is a great reminder that Middle Eastern politics have been goin' on for quite some time.
SCTV News was a different batch of goofiness from SNL's Weekend Update and some of the other comedy shows' mock news sketches.
10:04 and the cake may be stale too!
This is such a good sendup of the weekend late night horror shows.
The fun thing about this comment thread… most of you likely watched some kind of late night spooky movie show when you were young… low budget, old movies, with a local host (often somebody who also worked in the news department for the local station)…. dressed up as a monster.
In the states, Chicago had Svengoolie and Los Angeles had Elvira – there were others all over the USA and Canada.
Candy looks like Pat Quinn with that wig on.
The way they worked mid-east politics into the Desert Classic is just brilliant. One of the best written skits ever on the show. Dave Thomas' impression of Bob Hope is one of the best impressions of anyone ever.
Could you POSSIBLY RESPOND? No one wants to see the incessant Channel 12 Palm Beach interruptions. No one cares. Will you stop Dave? Stop Dave. I'm A Fraid…Dave
Release the Cats !!!! A Monster Chiller Horror Theatre that is actually scary !!!!
Lolz i loved watching sctv in the late70s -80s
these bring back great memories !
Hm … cocaine … hmm …
My brothers and I did the SCTV ‘3d effect’ to each other for years
Dave Thomas' Bob Hope is possibly the best ever.
What a brilliant sketch!
