Bob and Doug McKenzie in SCTV – Six Gun Justice
In the video SCTV – Six Gun Justice, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a couple of imaginaryfunny Canadian comedians who were featured in “Great White North”, a segment which was featured on SCTV – second city television for the show’s third season when it got sent to the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the eighties. Bob McKenzie is played by comic Rick Moranis and Doug’s character is brought to life by Dave Thomas. Even thoughFamously made originally as a joke to both satisfy and laugh about silly Canadian content legislation, the two turned into a pop culture hit in both Canada and across the border. The characters soon became the focus of a bestselling comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
I watched SCTV as a kid growing up in Ontario, and I wore out its freshness long before I grew up, so I missed out on a lot. Having revisited it, I discovered it was so much more than a bunch of clever skits and interesting characters, and I love Martin Short all over again.
Six Gun Justice was a serialized segment from Happy Hour in the sixth and final season of SCTV, forty years ago. It was both a show inside of a show inside of a show, and a parody of WWII recruitment propaganda films in the disguise of a western.
Not my favourite thing they did, but I figured I could make something out of it. It had some funny moments so I decided to string the clips altogether to make it into a full forty-minute feature.

It started out like Mel Brooks and Blazing Saddles, with some Gene Autry rolled into one. Seeing vintage SCTV actors a big plus. Thanks for posting such high brow content.
