In the video SCTV snippet from ITV in Edmonton, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of odd Canadian comedians who created “Great White North”, a skit which was introduced on second city television for the show’s most watched season when it was aired on the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the year 1980. Bob is performed by actor Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is performed by Dave Thomas. Despite developed originally as a joke to both fulfill and make fun of annoying Canadian content rules, the characters grew up to be a pop culture success in both Canada and across the border. The McKenzie siblings became the focus of a bestselling comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
SCTV’s Season 4, its second season of production at ITV, was picked up by NBC as a 90-minute show titled SCTV Network 90, replacing ‘The Midnight Special.’ Here’s a little snippet featuring Edith Prickley, played by Andrea Martin. (Credit: Global News)
John Candy and Catherine O’Hara joined the cast again, along with Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas, Bob & Doug McKenzie.
By January 1982 production of the show moved back to Toronto.
