Bob and Doug McKenzie in SCTV Stairways To Heaven
In the video SCTV Stairways To Heaven, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of hysterical Canadian comedians who starred in “Great White North”, a sketch which was introduced on second city television for the show’s most popular season when it aired by CBC Television in . The character Bob McKenzie is created by comedian Rick Moranis and Doug’s character is created by the comedian Dave Thomas. Which was brought to life originally as a joke to both please and make fun of dumb Canadian content legislation, the pair transformed into a pop culture success in both Canada and the United States. The two went on to become the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
Couldn’t find this on youtube so I’m uploading it! This is one of my favourite SCTV gags. Too bad that Jimmy wouldn’t allow it on the DVD sets. Enjoy!!!!

SCTV was the best. Slim Whitman, lol. RIP, Joe.
pavarotti
Genius!! Thank God for SCTV!!
I love how Rich Little is just the original recording. Damn, Rich was good!
This whole show was peak comedy.
You could actually make this these days with AI
Just the album you need to stop any karaoke singing at a party.
Baby baby it makes wonder..ding that at my funeral
An Australian Comedy show called The Money or the Gun actually put out an album like this.
Rich Little really nailed it!
Dolly Parton covering this is no longer a joke. Yet the Rickie Lee Jones & Slim Whitman impressions still make me laugh
Yes, Nancy has the largest breasts in town…and she's buying a stairway to heaven!
Too true to the real commercials…..They were painful…..
This album is no longer available due to copyright infringement by Led Zeppelin and Taurus. Also by The Godfathers nephew Johnnie Pavarotti who has claimed voice copyright infringement on Luciano Pavarotti singing Stairway to Heaven.
Dolly Parton actually does a bluegrass version of Stair to heaven
I would buy this!
Copy cat dick little
Rickie Lee Jones was spot on!
The quick joke referring to Ferrante & Teicher is so insanely brilliant. They were duet pianists popular in the 60s known to rearrange popular songs to people who liked sappy piano music. God I miss that show.
They don't make Slim Whitman jokes like that anymore.
Slim Whitman does Zep oh ny god that is right up there with his Indian Love Call
Genius.
Was this played through and recorded with a potato?
An Australian show actually did this; a different version of Stairway, in a different style, every show.

SCTV's my favorite sketch comedy show of all time.
If you haven't seen the 'Doobie Brothers for Carpets Galore' commercial, go check it out!
Actually, there's an Australian show called "The Money Or The Gun" that did this. Every week, they had a different group sing a version of "Stairway To Heaven".
Best versions were by The Rock Lobsters (B-52's cover band) and The Beatnix (Beatles cover band). Also of note was one by The Australian Doors.
And do check out the SCTV skit on Perry Como with Eugene. It's a classic.
I wanted to marry my fiancée in Melonville, but you cantaloupe there.
The Irish Rovers!!!! Haha! !
Whoever sang the Rickie Lee Jones part is amazing!
Hahahhaa the 5 neat guys are there too!
Please make this a reality but have the PO Boxes in Cincinnati and Saskatoon.
Thank you. I will personally buy 5 copies.
Genius.
Where can I get one ?
Dave Thomas could have made a comfortable living doing those blasted ads that were really on tv at the time.
This had me laughing so hard I could hardly breathe!
For people today who might not know what this is satirizing, there are numerous real K-Tel Records TV commercials from the 1970s posted here on YouTube. Back then, they were inescapable and they really did look and sound just like this comedy version.
