Within many of these comments are what us tweens said and laughed about years ago. That Lavin thinks she can sing more than she can, the obnoxious ending of the song, the lounge singer aspect. Hilarious that so many others thought the same things.
One Mainer doing another Mainer.
OMG @4:01– Somebody decided to go 'all-in' on Linda Lavin and commit full on character-assasination. There may be some truth to Linda having control issues but wow!
1:10 My soul left my body in a fit of laughter.
40 years later and a childhood away and this is STILL FUNNY AS HELL. Gawd Bless Andrea Martin. She had Lavin's card. Anybody that watched Alice faithfully and remembers the Flo beef knows this is THE TRUTH.
Joe Flaherty as a bewildered Gavin Macleod may be the funniest impression in comedy history!!
Brilliant !!!!!!!!!
The end of Lavin’s “I Love You Porgy” has me on the floor.
make-up artist made levy look just like greene…amazing…
The bit with Andrea Martin as Linda Lavin has always struck me as rather "inside," as if one or more of the people who worked on SCTV had a bad experience with Lavin.
I wish SCTV was being shown in re runs somewhere, hello me tv and antenna tv, , by the way according to both Polly Holliday and Diane Ladd who worked with her on Alice this take on her pretty much hits the mark
I loved this show. I often wonder how Linda Lavin felt about this — I mean they really put her through the grinder on this one. Since most comedy shows didn't do Linda Lavin parodies, she probably chose to just ignore this particular skit, hoping others would never see it.
Love that Jamie Farr impersonation.
This entire thing is hilarious.
Andrea Martin is brilliant. Thank you.
I don't even see Andrea Martin anymore: I'm seeing Linda Lavin. That's how good Andrea is at her craft. Lavin really did "SCHMALTZ" up that opening for "Alice"
Linda Lavin schmaltzing up the Alice opening must be muzak in hell. She sounded like a hammy lounge singer who was very impressed with herself
One of Andrea Martin's best impressions on a technical level – she sounds just like Linda Lavin!
John Candy @ 3:37 ?
That incredibly annoying passive-aggressive way of smiling when you're chewing someone out… only Andrea Martin would be brilliant enough to see it in Linda Lavin.
I thought she would have done the theme song to Alice, the show she starred in. Early to rise, early to bed, in between I cooked and cleaned and went out of my head.
In Linda's defense, the orchestra sucked as bad or worse than she did,,,,,,, AND,,,,,,,,,,, awesomely… 🙂
I won't be happy until SCTV gets the views it deserves…in the millions.
OMG. I love these people! This is brilliant!!
"I'm one lucky guy."
"Yes, we know."
LMAO
Savage! l love it….
I hated when Alice Hyat Sung
Buump baa bump baa BAAAA !!!!
Hilarious
I've always thought Linda was a hammy singer, and apparently I'm not alone. I can't listen to the opening of Alice without cringing. Especially after the first season, when she started to really overdue it.
Andrea as Linda Lavin…..hilarious!!!!!!!
Make sure you don't shoot my hands… when I'm faking it …
I love how SCTV would just lay out how talentless, narcissistic and pretentious most famous people are. They could be deadly when they wanted to be…
Only SCTV would have the wit to skewer Linda Lavin.
Take me now…God!!! Lo!
Ed Grimley, Mayor of Nerdville.
I'm from Chicago. Does anyone remember around the years of 1984, SCTV came on, I think at midnight or one am on Friday or Saturday nights. Back then that was considered the graveyard shift for a television program. I remember it being viewed by critics as a second rate Saturday Night Live type show. Back then I was too young to really appreciate their brilliance, but they were just as good as Saturday Night Live, if not better in some aspects. I'm so glad I can actually watch it again, through the Internet. Andrea Martin did some funkin' fantastic, hilarious impersonations!
Priceless.
"I guess she told you to eat her grits"…now that was funny!…
Scene right after the clip ended was also a hoot, Farr/Short made big mistake of smooching some macho guy on stage…lol
Another of Andrea Martin's astounding impersonations. Those of us who grew up with Alice can recognize the brilliance of this parody of Linda Lavin's singing style. Short as Jamie Farr and Levy as Lorne Green were also spot on. "Sweeps Week" is one of the best episodes of Network 90 with a brilliant wraparound.
OMG I can't believe you said that! Only this show dared to point out that the Network Cash Cows had no talent.
@Paulgr …Cabillero;.."Live From Edmonton…its Thursday Night!"
4:55 Then it's your funeral! LOL!!!
Andrea Martin— hysterical!
