In the video SCTV Takes on the Big Three Networks – intros 1978-81, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of made up Canadian brothers who hosted “Great White North”, a show which was featured on SCTV for the show’s third season when it was aired on CBC Television in 1980. The character Bob McKenzie is brought to life by hilarious comedian Rick Moranis and Doug is played by actor Dave Thomas. Even thoughFamously made originally as fluff to both fulfill and laugh at legal Canadian content rules, the two became a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and across the border. The McKenzie siblings later became the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
After rejections from ABC, CBS & NBC, SCTV strikes out on its own. NBC later signs the cast to contracts, then kicks them out of New York and back to Edmonton.
