Bob and Doug McKenzie in SCTV – Taxi Driver w. Bob Hope
In the video SCTV – Taxi Driver w. Bob Hope, Bob and Doug McKenzie are two of imaginaryfunny Canadian family members who created “Great White North”, a segment which was televised on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most liked season when it streamed by CBC Television in the eighties. Bob McKenzie is played by comedian Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie is created by Dave Thomas. Although born originally as a sketch to both please and laugh at network Canadian content statutes, the brothers turned into a pop culture sensation in both Canada and the US. How many versions of Taxi Driver did they have on SCTV? Each one is better than the rest.
SNL was never as funny as SCTV.
Thanks for uploading this! Small random note, but while the sketch itself is from the early 80s, the clip is taken from an airing that NBC had as part of thirty minute episodes of 'Later' after 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien' in the early 2000s when the show switched from a one-on-one interview format to literally just best-of clips of SCTV. The American flag NBC logo in the lower right hard corner specifically indicates that this particular airing was from the days/weeks after the September 11th attacks. Makes me wonder if the source was someone videotaping NBC's entire days of 9/11 coverage and then just left the VCR on to record overnight and happened to catch this episode.
Yeah well G'NAT
wonderful
Way too much hair to be Bob Hope.
"I've had that laid on me before…"
There was this black dude who could do a Bob Hope that was so spot on that you'd think it was him.
"You weren't talking to me, were you?"
Brilliant
SCTV was always much funnier than Saturday Night Live ever was.I miss it.
What year is this from? The graphics at the end say ‘80s to me but maybe I’m wrong?
