The Tom Monroe version of Downtown sounds like What A Fool Believes lol
This must be the episode where everything referenced The Doobie Brothers.. I remember there was a skit for a carpet store sale with the Doobie Brothers singing as well. My 16-year-old self loved this and thought it was so funny that everything was parodying the Doobie Brothers.
i love that he makes the skeevy derelicts a big selling point for "Downtown."
1:10 Filmed in front of Leduc Draperies, which was located at 4718 50th Ave. in Leduc AB. A barber shop is now on the site.
Michael McDonald sang backing in every song.
I like the "What A Fool Believes" backing track.
I alwas love the mid-1970s rhythm-and-blues rock style
Bill Murray is going to give him some jealousy noogies, and then they'll do a movie together or an album.
Downtown Leduc
Michael McDonald backing vocals!
Rick has a damn fine singing voice…..
As a Canadian, I can attest that this is how we all dress when going downtown
So many layers.
The only reason I know where Leduc Alberta is is because of this
His outfit!
Tom Monroe = Jerry Vale, Vic Damone & Al Martino rolled up in one
that lavender suit is fantastic
The Michael McDonald joke just puts it over the top.
I love the Michael McDonald backup vocals. Reminds me of the Great parody they did of Christopher cross's Ride Like the Wind with Michael McDonald singing backup and driving an old car all over town. I never get tired of the genius that was SCTV.
To cut costs SCTV filmed several seasons in Edmonton, Alberta-and this particular spoof was filmed in Leduc which is ~20 miles south of Edmonton. You can see "Leduc Draperies" in the background
Downtown Leduc
I LIKED IT
Heard Downtown by Petula Clark at our local bar tonight and immediately thought of this version. Rick Moranis could have made an album as Tom Monroe; I would have bought it.
Love this song classic
Michael McDonald singing backgrounds
I have this on DVD love it classic
On top of all the other brilliance of this, the sound and video seem to go out of sync with one another. lol
I wish I could share this with the world. SCTV is right up there with the legends of comedy. This will still be funny in two thousand years, I am from the future so I know.
Finally found this SCTV-clip!
Anyone from Leduc composite High 1988-1989? Swedish exchange student playing guitar in the school band for mr Everett Norris. His son Jason Norris would be great to hear from. I've had some contact with Russel G.
Rick Moranis wore that outfit. In broad day light. In Canada.
I love how he wears the glam pink jumpsuit and platform boots, but ironically still sings in the lounge singer style.
Bombing into 2021… Thanks for the backup from fake Michael McDonald. Stay safe, kids…
DOWNTOWN NASHVILLE…
