This must be the episode where everything referenced The Doobie Brothers.. I remember there was a skit for a carpet store sale with the Doobie Brothers singing as well. My 16-year-old self loved this and thought it was so funny that everything was parodying the Doobie Brothers.
Heard Downtown by Petula Clark at our local bar tonight and immediately thought of this version. Rick Moranis could have made an album as Tom Monroe; I would have bought it.
I LIKED IT
Downtown Leduc
To cut costs SCTV filmed several seasons in Edmonton, Alberta-and this particular spoof was filmed in Leduc which is ~20 miles south of Edmonton. You can see "Leduc Draperies" in the background
I love the Michael McDonald backup vocals. Reminds me of the Great parody they did of Christopher cross's Ride Like the Wind with Michael McDonald singing backup and driving an old car all over town. I never get tired of the genius that was SCTV.
The Michael McDonald joke just puts it over the top.
that lavender suit is fantastic
Tom Monroe = Jerry Vale, Vic Damone & Al Martino rolled up in one
His outfit!
