Bob and Doug McKenzie in SCTV – The Gerry Todd Show
In the video SCTV – The Gerry Todd Show, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a couple of hysterical Canadian brothers who created “Great White North”, a improv which was broadcast on second city television for the show’s most liked season when it streamed by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the year 1980. Bob’s part is brought to life by hilarious comedian Rick Moranis and Doug’s character is created by actor Dave Thomas. Even thoughFamously created originally as an idea to both satisfy and make fun of network Canadian content demands, the siblings turned into a pop culture sensation in both Canada and America. The McKenzie brothers went on to become the focus of a huge comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

Everyone mentions Bill Murray doing the lounge singer as what must have inspired Richard Cheese, but what he really does is what Moranis does here.
Tom Monroe has strong Leland Palmer energy.
That outdoor scene in the beginning was filmed at Hawrelak Park in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I believe back then it was still called Mayfair Park. Judging from the trees, I can safely say it was filmed in spring, most likely in mid to late May.
The subtle sound effects they added when Jerry is dialing in the graphics are just awesome
Years ago I had to do my imitation of Jerry Todd saying “turning Japanese” for my friend and coworker at least once a day coincidentally he was Japanese, great memories.
Glad I was around when this came out originally. We loved the old SNL original cast then watched The Midnight Special every Saturday night. How lucky were we boomers for laughter and great music…
RM was the most TALENTED overall on the cast of SCTV but his talents weren't appreciated by all IMHO
No doubt Rick was inspired by the really bad pop music which predominated in the period.
yes request the rarity that is stairway to heaven lmao
Love how he brings in his own chyron — man, this show was brilliant and takes me back to my college days!
45° and 63° Celsius?!? Yikes.
Rick Moranis is 'The Full Nanaimo' in the start…
Should be a requirement to include original air date in the description, wtf man, c'mon!
Please tell me Tom Monroe's Greatest Hits exists somewhere. I want it for my collection

What lovely nonsense! I love these!
So funny to hear the references to Toronto. Lansdowne avenue and Pape
I always watch the Gerry Todd show!
Omg this show was good
Dave Thomas: "We didn't know we'd never get the chance to anything like this again."
Fun fact: that dude was in the tv show with Brett butler that one time.
Probably haven't seen this since the 80s in college. This morning, making breakfast for my son, I found myself singing Tom Monroe's Turning Japanese : )
