In the video SCTV – The Recess Monkeys – My Girl, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of strange Canadian brothers who are responsible for “Great White North”, a segment which was televised on SCTV for the show’s most watched season when it got sold to the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in 1980. Bob’s partThe character Bob is acted by comic Rick Moranis and Doug’s character is played by comic Dave Thomas. The bit was developed originally as a skit to both satisfy and mock stupid Canadian content policies, the pair transformed into a pop culture smash hit in both Canada and across the border. The McKenzie brothers went on to become the focus of a bestselling comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
