In the video SCTV’s FANTASY ISLAND spoof (1979), Bob and Doug McKenzie are two of odd Canadian comedians who were featured in “Great White North”, a ad lib skit which was introduced on SCTV for the show’s most liked season when it braodcast by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the 80’s. Bob is brought to life by Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is played by actor Dave Thomas. It was born originally as a sketch to both fulfill and mock stupid Canadian content demands, the pair morphed into a pop culture phenomenon in both Canada and across the border. The two went on to become the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
