Bob and Doug McKenzie in Snoopy’s Christmas vs. The Red Baron – The Royal Guardsmen
In the video Snoopy’s Christmas vs. The Red Baron – The Royal Guardsmen, Bob and Doug McKenzie are two of imaginaryfunny Canadian actors who starred in “Great White North”, a segment which was introduced on second city television for the show’s most watched season when it got sold to the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the year 1980. Bob is created by hilarious comedian Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is acted by actor Dave Thomas. The sketch was brought to life originally as fluff to both please and laugh at network Canadian content statutes, the brothers transformed into a pop culture hit in both Canada and the US. The McKenzie brothers soon became the focus of a famous comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
The Royal Guardsmen were 5 guys from Ocala, Florida. They recorded a quartet of songs inspired by Snoopy the Beagle in the “Peanuts” comic strip between 1967 and 1968.
This was the third in the list of Snoopy songs. This was rereleased around Christmas the following 2 years.
Two lines from the traditional song “O Tannenbaum” (the German version of “O Christmas Tree”) are featured at the very beginning of this song.
This song takes place during World War I, and follows up on “Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron,” where Snoopy is a fighter pilot. In “Snoopy’s Christmas,” The Red Baron decides not to shoot Snoopy down, but forces him to land and gives him a Christmas gift.
Song Lyrics:
The news it came out in the First World War
The bloody Red Baron was flying once more
The Allied Command ignored all of its men
And called on Snoopy to do it again
Was the night before Christmas and forty below
When Snoopy went up in search of his foe
He spied the Red Baron and fiercely they fought
With ice on his wings, Snoopy knew he was caught
Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ring out from the land
Asking peace of all the world
And good will to man
The Baron had Snoopy dead in his sights
He reached for the trigger to pull it up tight
Why he didn’t shoot, well, we’ll never know
Or was it the bells from the village below
Refrain
Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man
The Baron made Snoopy fly to the Rhine
And forced him to land behind the enemy lines
Snoopy was certain that this was the end
When the Baron cried out “Merry Christmas, mein friend!”
The Baron then offered a holiday toast
And Snoopy our hero saluted his host
And then with a roar they were both on their way
Each knowing they’d meet on some other day
Refrain twice

Who’s here in 2023 going on 2024
This scene is from It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.
I always wondered if they wrote this because of the German cease fire in WW1 to celebrate Christmas. I've always loved it
This song came out in 1966 at the height of the US involvement in Vietnam. Now, during that foolish war there were many antiwar songs. Yet this particular song, a novelty hit, grabs me more than most of them, with its simple message of peace.
My dad loved these guys. He was buried Christmas Eve 1997. This makes me tear up every time I hear it
May there be peace and goodwill today ringing through the land, Merry Christmas
I just got goose bumps and started crying. …Christmas hasn’t been the same since my Mom passed away 11yrs ago 3 days after Christmas.
Loosly based on the Christmas Truce of 1914.
My boss knows I hate holiday music.
She also knows I adore this song.
Fun fact: During the first World War in 1914, the allied and german forces called a temporary ceasefire and spent Christmas with each other. This song is probably a reference to that, since the Red Baron is also a figure from World War 1.
My Christmas isn't complete until I come here to listen to this song.

So true
This was my family’s Christmas song back in the 60’s. Made my day to hear it again, I believe I’m 50 years younger❤️
For my Jim…he went to Jesus 3 years ago. This was one of his favorite Christmas songs.
I just listened to this for the first-time last night. Haven't stopped listening since.

Snoopy's Christmas (O Natal do Snoopy) – The Royal Guardsmen – 1967
Traduzido do Alemão:
Ele avistou o Barão Vermelho, eles lutaram ferozmente
Compositores: George David Weiss / Hugo Peretti / Luigi Creatore
I remember this
I wish these guys had recorded a full version O Tannebaum, seeing how their rendition of the second verse is so… so "Yes. THAT is O Tannebaum."
Best Christmas song ever
Gotta love Snoopy. He still is Joe Cool
Amen
Snoopy is my favorite character of all time. I remember the first time I heard this around Christmas as a kid in the car with my mom and I was so amazed Snoopy had his own Christmas song, this song is a must for me to hear at Christmas time, sad that radio stations barely play it anymore during the holidays!
This Song used to be played on the radio along with many other songs every December until 10 or 20 years ago. Now you rarely hear any Christmas songs.
