In the video Strange Brew (1983) – No Brakes – Charles Fox, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of made up Canadian siblings who are responsible for “Great White North”, a ad lib skit which was included on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most popular season when it got sent to the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the eighties. Bob McKenzie is played by comic Rick Moranis and Doug is performed by the comedian Dave Thomas. The sketch was born originally as a sketch to both follow guidelines and make fun of non sensical Canadian content statutes, the pair turned into a pop culture hit in both Canada and the States. The two became the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
“Take off, you steer this thing!”. Bob and Doug careen into Lake Ontario after a high-speed pursuit with police through Toronto. Little did they know that Brewmeister Smith’s assistant Ted cut the brake lines of their van on the way to delivering beer to Pam’s party.
This is one of the most eventful pieces of Charles Fox’s comedy score to the 1983 comedy Strange Brew. It really deserves to be released because it’s so lush, and dramatic, while always remembering the comedic aura of the McKenzie Bros.
