Bob and Doug McKenzie in Strange Brew – re:View
In the video Strange Brew – re:View, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a duo of imaginaryfunny Canadian comedians who were featured in “Great White North”, a improv which was included on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most watched season when it was featured on the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the year 1980. Bob’s character is brought to life by Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is played by Dave Thomas. Although born originally as a skit to both please and makes jokes about annoying Canadian content rules, the pair transformed into a pop culture smash hit in both Canada and America. The pair soon became the focus of a an amazing comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
A couple of Canadians discuss a movie about a couple of Canadians. It’s Strange Brew! The most Canadian Canada movie to ever Canada.

TIL: Charlie on Sunny in Philly is just Charlie Day's impression of Rick Moranis in Strange Brew.
You hosers get slightly funnier as the video and movie go along eh. I was a fan of SCTV and Bob and Doug enough to go out of my way to see Strange Brew first run and it was well worth a theater viewing, the larger audience the better. It's my Canadian classic cinema favorite (not to mention the only one on the list eh). Making Hosehead fly with a magic red cape trailing behind was a brilliant ending to a great movie. It was beauty.
i miss watching jim get super drunk and ramble
10:24 It took me literally into adulthood to realize how absurd the two of them trying to score a free case of beer using a live mouse in a bottle was.
Fantastic episode. In good Canadian Fashion!
Should review Canadian Bacon as well
23:59 he drank budwieser and miller… same thing…
For anyone wondering why Jim said "fuck you, Colin" when Colin said he'd never heard of Vikings, it's because Jim was a lead matte painter for Vikings for many many episodes.
The abosite of Mike and Jay.
"Go to the matte painting"
Jim and Colin should do a re:View of Goin' Down The Road with a bonus comparison showing the SCTV version!
Skipped school to see this in the theater (Montreal).
I have inherited my accent from Strange Brew Rick Moranis aka Bob Mckenzie I live in Minnesota
I love that Dave and Rick made me find SCTV sketches not just the Bob and Doug McKenzie sketches
Not one reference to the plot being derived from Hamlet?
Our REAL Least viewed episode ever
I think the funniest thing about this episode is just how much better Jim and Colin are at voices and accents compared to Jay and Mike,
Loved watching SCTV reruns. Dont even remember where they aired
Keeping with tradition, I’m back after two years. This is still great lol.
I hate how comedians make stupid faces like that as if thats necessary to denote the fact that it's a comedy
Not the worst aggressively Canadian comedy film I've seen.
Where can I get Elsinore beer?
Canadian.
When i was growing up my top 3 movies were UHF, monty python and the holy grail, and strange brew… my tastes in movies have changed some but all 3 hold up as Classics
Jim was one the most hilarous guests. I hope he´s fine and can get back to the show soon.
It's about an hour and 10 to get to octoberfest from Toronto to kitchener eh. I'm sure the superdog didn't get stuck in traffic on the 401 so he got there in 45 I can assume
Rosie was Gold leader in Star Wars 18:05
I am shaking my head at you in disappointment.
Max von Sydow… Ming the Merciless in Flash Gordon.
You researched and found out who did the matte paintings and missed von Sydow's (arguably) biggest role for people of our generation? Really?
Fun fact: That "Take Off To The Great White North" song featuring Geddy Lee from Rush charted higher in Canada than any Rush song ever.
The plot is Hamlet, which makes the movie even more enjoyable that Hamlet could be a comedy
Rob and Doug got to return as moose in the cartoon Brother Bear.
Very good back story for this film
I watched SCTV every week when I was a kid
The joke is that Jim worked on Vikings
Strange Brew is an iconic masterpiece
Just found this. Strange Brew is one of my favorite movies. My son and I watched it together when he was a teenager (he’s now 50) and laughed our heads off. One of our favorite lines”That’s a beauty, clerk (clark)”. We say it often. Great review!
Never knew about the fake teeth. I watched this movie a ton on VHS as a kid and it's always fun to learn a new fact about something you've seen a dozen dozen times
