Bob and Doug McKenzie in Stutter Dubs 1981 – Dave Thomas and Matthew O’Bannon
In the video Stutter Dubs 1981 – Dave Thomas and Matthew O’Bannon, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a group of hilarious Canadian family members who created “Great White North”, a program which was featured on SCTV for the show’s most watched season when it was featured on the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the 1980s. Bob is acted by Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is performed by the comedian Dave Thomas. Regardless the fact it was brought to life originally as fluff to both follow guidelines and laugh at non sensical Canadian content guidelines, the siblings became a pop culture smash hit in both Canada and the States. The McKenzie brothers went on to become the focus of a an amazing comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
Another oddity…..From time to time in the ’80s, I was called upon to play bass or guitar for a group called “Stutter”, a loose-knit (to say the least) art/music collective led by a gentleman named Jim Adams. When possible, I would then make off with the raw rhythm tracks and dub on them at my leisure. On my first Stutter session, I was alone in the studio with drummer Dave Thomas (who had, as I recall, recently joined the band I was regularly playing with), and we followed Mr. Adams’ somewhat arcane and non-musical written instructions as best we could (I seem to recall playing the bass with my feet at one point, but that may be a false memory). I subsequently dubbed guitar onto these basic tracks, and I don’t pretend to have put much work into it.
Strangely enough, I was recently asked if I had any Stutter recordings that I could upload to YouTube. Well, this is it. Except for a vinyl record that I can’t locate (and which I didn’t play on), all I have of Stutter are my own little sketches.
The images are my usual wacky hodge-podge, assembled at random, or at least arbitrarily, which seems only appropriate. Fortunately, I have clips of Nazimova, Man Ray, Godzilla, and various scary monsters available at all times. Also: carpets, doors, furniture, dogs, cats, and antique pornography.
The first Stutter track, known to me only as “Stutter Rhumba” (which I associate exclusively with Bugs Bunny), was the basis for the Skull Of Glee song “Cannibals Gone Wild”.

'More songs about buildings as food' was the proposed album title, if memory serves.
