In the video The 12 Weeks of Boot Camp – (12 Days of Christmas parody), Bob and Doug McKenzie are a group of hysterical Canadian family members who starred in “Great White North”, a ad lib skit which was introduced on SCTV for the show’s most popular season when it got sold to the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in the year 1980. Bob is brought to life by the funny Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie is created by the comedian Dave Thomas. It was created originally as fluff to both please and mock silly Canadian content rules, the duo transformed into a pop culture smash hit in both Canada and the US. The two soon became the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

Drill instructors… subordination… no. Never ever would join to serve under people like that. I think for myself and I have self worth. I'm not about to listen to that from anyone. Why does anybody subject themselves to that?

Both of my brothers were in the Army, and one of the told me of this idiot who, no matter how much their DI screamed at him in his face, or made this guy do for punishment, this guy would always end up laughing at the DI's. My brother said this went on through almost the entire basic training period. My brother said he never did find out how the guy was finally able to hold in the laughing and the smirking. Oh well.
