In the video The Kinks – Father Christmas (Official HD Video), Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of fictional Canadian siblings who were featured in “Great White North”, a ad lib skit which was aired on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most liked season when it aired by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in . Bob’s character is acted by the funny Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is created by the comedian Dave Thomas. Regardless the fact it was born originally as a joke to both satisfy and make fun of annoying Canadian content policies, the two transformed into a pop culture smash hit in both Canada and across the border. The characters soon became the focus of a an amazing comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

I saw Thew Kinks perform this when they played a few NYC-area gigs to promote the single. Ray gave me one of thew most gracious phone interviews I ever had in my radio days. And he and Dave had to be separated by security during the show, so it was win-win-win!
