In the video The Plasmatics on The Fishin’ Musician SCTV, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a couple of strange Canadian siblings who created “Great White North”, a program which was televised on second city television for the show’s most watched season when it streamed by the Canadian Broadcasting Channel in 1980. Bob McKenzie is played by actor Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is acted by comic Dave Thomas. Although developed originally as an idea to both please and mock stupid Canadian content rules, the duo turned into a pop culture hit in both Canada and the States. The two soon became the focus of a classic comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.

I was born and raised in the US but lived close to both Vancouver and Victoria BC; most of the TV stations we got were from Canada (before cable anyway). I love seeing these old clips that I remember from when they first ran- they bring me right back to how my life was when I was just starting out on my own.
