“The Skeleton’s Waltz,” composed by Dave Thomas, one of the hottest accordionists on YouTube. He may be credited as being the best at covering valses by my favorite composer, Yann Tiersen. See Dave Thomas performing his own wonderful song here!:

I learnt this “by ear,” as there was no other way :).

  1. The hard: 1) Your hands are held sideways = decreased flexibility, compared to the piano. 2) Sweaty hands on the button-base side aren't convenient. 3) You can't see your hands. Sometimes this is cumbersome, but I think not seeing calms me down, actually. 4) My accordion is a little heavy at 18 pounds. Inside the boxy case, it must be 25 pounds. Carrying it is awkward, sort of knocks my legs out from under me :P. But I can take it out of the case and sling it behind my back and that's hip ;).

  2. Yeah, there's a lot of buttons on one side, but I usually only use a sequence of buttons close together, using only my 2nd and 3rd fingers. Finding them is muscle memory. Pretty miraculous!

  3. Hi! I've been playing since August 2010. Totally self-taught. It wasn't hard. Although, I've played piano since 2003 :), and took lessons until 2005. So, at least as a pianist, the piano accordion isn't hard.

Despite what my friends assume, playing the bass end, the keyboard end, and operating the bellows isn't like patting your head and rubbing your stomach, haha.
