Batman is a 1989 superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name that was such an anomaly at the time by completely redesigning and reimagining whole parts of Batman’s established canon.

The film was directed by Tim Burton and stars Jack Nicholson, Michael Keaton, Kim Basinger, Robert Wuhl, Pat Hingle, Billy Dee Williams, Michael Gough, and Jack Palance.

1989’s Batman laid the groundwork for the modern superhero film and all of the marketing surrounding them but also set off a number of other comic book movies to be made at the time.

  1. My best friend Joey and I got sneak preview tickets for Batman ‘89. We were already obsessed with Batman and the movie just made it worse. Our lives were all about Batman and Gn’R. Lol

  2. I remember my dad taking me to see it. The opening credits seemed to last forever but when the bat symbol finally came into view, I knew it was going to be awesome. Spoiler alert, Batgirl was canceled and the flash bombed despite Keaton returning.

  3. I feel like a lot of people I talk to these days forget that Keaton was a controversial casting choice for Batman. But, then again, I think every time they get a new Batman, there seems to be some controversy over it.

  4. The multiverse trash was trash when it was introduced, it's still trash, and it'll keep being trash. I really hope DC in particular leans harder into Elseworlds and other sorts of one-offs.

  5. The Nolan movies were overrated POS and Snyder is an uneducated untalented idiot. Burton's movies were exceptionally well made. Basinger, the Batmobile, and Nicholson were perfect. Im not a big fan of Batman but Keaton and Burton just sold it well and is second only to the 1977 animated series in terms of fun.

  6. Still my favorite Batman. I didn’t see it opening knight, but I did catch it in the theaters. My ten-year-old-self thought it was the dopest thing he’d ever seen on the big screen.

  7. Can you imagine: 1983, Harrison Ford as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Anthony Hopkins as Alfred, Clint Eastwood as Commissioner Gordon, Jack Nicholson as Joker, Michael Douglas as Riddler, and Jamie Lee Curtis as Catwoman.

  8. yeah I'll admit it… never liked the Chris Nolan movies…felt they were extremely overrated…were they good cop dramas? Sure…but were they good Batman movies? No I will continue to say they were amoung some of the worst Batman movies, only props I'll give is Heath Ledger Joker (I mean like everyone else I am sure) everything else was either bad or forgettable
