  1. This is one of the greatest videos ever made. "The weak link in the great chain of Mother Russia." and "experience has taught is to not to make martyrs of our enemies." CLASSIC.

  2. Unfortunately, what is shown here in satiric genre completely true. Uzbek nation was the most unfairly treated part of Soviet Union. They just sucked up all our cotton with the poor peoples’ blood who day and night picked up cotton in “frying” fields, and poor women got dark rough skin (majority of people are white) and skin cancer. All this just to complete the “plan” and make mother russia great again in the eyes of the world. They owe Uzbeks lives.

  3. I was in grade 2 when I saw this and In my mind I just used Uzbeks ( didn't know what Uzbeks meant) as anyone that others would look down upon, joke still stands up.

  4. A pristine memory of having seen (Uzbeks) this when it was (Uzbeks) first broadcast (Uzbeks) in the early '80s. The repetition of the word, Uzbeks, throughout is hilarious for the serious tone of this video.

  5. This is NOT a knock on the Uzbeks. Toronto-based SCTV made this "SPOOF" of Soviet television contemporaneously with a Uzbek uprising in the late 1970s (if I recall the decade).

Sometimes political satire casts a great people as something obviously known to be just the opposite of what is portrayed. Understanding satire appropriately requires some intellectual awareness.

SCTV is loved in part because of the complexity of their humor. The joke is on the old Soviet Union, not the Uzbek people. The Soviets were iron-fisted, but were confounded by the "least" of their enslaved people.

This "demeaning" of Uzbeks was designed to show the idiocy of the oppressive force. In the eyes of "Mother Russia", the Uzbek rebellion was being depicted back in Moscow with bitterness – rebels characterized as a bunch of mongrels.

In essence, "Mother Russia" was being forced to eat a cluster of "sour grapes" courtesy of Uzbeks!

In real life, the Soviet Union propaganda machine was telling the free world everything was fine. But, in the USA, news was telling the people they had spy reports, which said the Uzbek people were sick of the USSR.

Eventually, news camera footage smuggled out showed, indeed, the Uzbeks were in rebellion against the evil empire. We saw smoking buildings and total discontent. Maybe there are some older Uzbeks, who can remember this rebellion? When we DID see the news footage of the rebellion, we Americans smiled, crossed our fingers, and prayed for Uzbek success.

Even if the Uzbek rebels were dressed like barbarians in this political satire, Americans know it took a lot of bravery amongst the Uzbek people to rebel.

    Think about it some.

  6. The sketch is a parody of a large oppressive political entity using a minority as a scapegoat. The mindset in the 80's regarding the Soviet Union was a lot different, and most Canadians would not have realized that Uzbekistan was a real place. In most of our minds, the central Asian republics were lumped in with the Soviet Union, and the Soviet Union was Russian. If anything, the sketch made some of us realize that there really were a people called Uzbeks, and that the USSR was not monolithic.

  7. I THINK THIS VIDEO ALONG WITH THE UNETHICAL AND RACIST COMMENTS SHOULD BE TAKING OUT FROM YOU TUBE OR AT LEAST SHOULD BE REPORTED, ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE WATCHING YOU TUBE. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

  8. This is pure satire of USSR and also of US. Stating a problem internally like "Uzbeks" vs say "hippies". It's just made up. It really isn't Uzbeks. As Georgi says " Anyone who doesn't understand that must really be an "uzbek". Heh heh. Some very dumb people making comments here
