In the video Why Rick Moranis Retired from Acting!, Bob and Doug McKenzie are a group of hilarious Canadian family members who starred in “Great White North”, a program which was streamed on SCTV – second city television for the show’s most watched season when it was featured on CBC Television in the year 1980. Bob is performed by actor Rick Moranis and Doug McKenzie’s part is performed by comic Dave Thomas. Although created originally as a sketch to both please and laugh at annoying Canadian content rules, the two turned into a pop culture hit in both Canada and the US. The brothers became the focus of a an amazing comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
For this series, we’ll be looking at once-popular hugely prolific actors who disappeared from the acting scene or at least were significantly less prolific and much less in the public eye than they had been in the past.
