Bob’s character is performed by comedian Rick Moranis and Doug’s part is created by the comedian Dave Thomas. The bit was created originally as filler to both please and mock silly Canadian content statutes, the two morphed into a pop culture sensation in both Canada and the USA. The characters soon became the focus of a bestselling comedy album, The Great White North, in 1981.
